Message from the Director
Welcome to the website for Counseling and Psychological Services at James Madison University. I hope that you will take some time to explore the site and learn about our services, meet our clinical faculty and clinicians, and follow the links for our partner programs at the Institute for Innovation and Health and Human Services (IIHHS) and the Department of Graduate Psychology.
CAPS provides counseling and assessment services for individuals, families, children, and adolescents in Harrisonburg and the surrounding community. Our faculty and clinicians are dedicated to providing mental health services that promote health and well-being for individuals across the lifespan. Through these services we are working to promote the two primary goals of Healthy People 2010: 1) increase quality and years of healthy life, and 2) eliminate health disparities. Healthy People 2010 is a national initiative to improve the overall health and well-being for all members in our communities. The faculty and clinicians at CAPS are actively involved in helping to achieve these goals through the provision of quality mental health services that emphasize health and well-being. Our services focus on the enhancement and healing of meaningful relationships and finding new ways to cope with life’s challenges. We believe our emphasis on health and well-being helps to build the quality and number of years of a healthy life.
We are also actively taking steps to reduce health disparities by providing affordable services that are easy to access. Fees for services are determined on a sliding scale and we offer a variety of payment options. We offer day and evening hours to meet a variety of scheduling needs and our offices are easily accessible by public transportation. We are also pleased to offer services at a variety of sites located in our community.
I am excited about how the faculty and staff at CAPS are working to promote health and well-being and eliminate health disparities in our community. If we can be off assistance to you or a member of your family, please contact us at 540-568-1735 to arrange a confidential appointment.
