Meet the Clinical Faculty of CAPS

Harriet Cobb, Ed. D.

Dr. Cobb is a faculty member in the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the Combined-Integrated Doctoral program. Dr. Cobb's areas of interest include consultation, supervision, leadership, child/family/adult psychotherapy, children with disabilities, and school-based interventions. Dr. Cobb is licensed in Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor and as a School Psychologist

Eric Cowan, Psy. D.

Dr. Cowan is a faculty member of the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the Counseling Psychology program. Dr. Cowan’s areas of interest include psychotherapy theory and practice, intersubjectivity, counselor training and supervision, developmental origins of "self," and dreams. Dr. Cowan is licensed in Virginia as a Clinical Psychologist.

William Ernst, Psy.D.

Dr. Ernst is a faculty member of the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the School Psychology program. Dr. Ernst’s areas of interest include Neuropsychology; Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI); Pediatric Neuropsychological Screening Instruments; Return to School Following Acquired Brain Injury. Dr. Ernst is licensed in Virginia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania as a Clinical Psychologist.

Gregg Henriques, Ph. D.

Dr. Henriques is a faculty member in the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the Combined-Integrated Doctoral program. Dr. Henriques' expertise is in individual psychotherapy with adults and his areas of interest include well-being and adjustment, depression and suicide, social motivation and emotion, beliefs and values, integrative psychotherapy, the nature of mental disorders, and the development of a new scientific philosophy called the Tree of Knowledge System. Dr. Henriques is a licensed psychologist in Virginia

Sandra G. Hite, ME.D.

Ms. Hite is a Clinician in Residence and teaches in the Department of Graduate Psychology in the Counseling Psychology Program. Ms. Hite’s areas of interest include providing supervision in the area of school counseling. Ms. Hite has a Postgraduate Professional License in the area of School Counseling.

Michele Kielty Briggs, Ph. D.

Dr. Kielty Briggs is a faculty member of the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the Counseling Psychology program. Dr. Kielty-Briggs’ areas of interest include counseling children and adolescents, Girls' leadership and self-concept, Spiritual issues in counseling.

Tim Schulte, Psy. D.

Dr. Schulte is a faculty member in the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the Combined-Integrated Doctoral program. Dr. Schulte’s are of interests include psychological testing and assessment, identification of learning disorders in university populations, Interprofessional education and practice, and issues of primary care in rural settings. Dr. Schulte is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia.

Craig Shealy, Ph. D.

Dr. Shealy is a member of the faculty of the Department of Graduate Psychology, a core faculty member of the Combined-Integrated Doctoral program, and Executive Director of the International Beliefs and Values Institute at JMU (see http://www.jmu.edu/ibavi). Dr. Shealy’s areas of interest include integrated approaches to training, beliefs and values, family process/treatment outcome, developmental psychopathology. Dr. Shealy is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia.

ReneE Staton, Ph. D.

Dr. Staton is a faculty member of the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the Counseling Psychology program. Dr. Staton’s areas of interest include multicultural counseling, social justice issues in counseling, and interprofessional collaboration. Dr. Staton is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Board Certified Counselor.

Anne Stewart, Ph. D.

Dr. Stewart is a faculty member in the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the Combined-Integrated Doctoral program. Dr. Stewart's areas of interest include couples and family therapy, play therapy, child sexual abuse, humanitarian demining and neuropsychological assessment. Dr. Stewart is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia.

Patricia J. Warner, Ph.D.

Dr. Warner is a faculty member of the Department of Graduate Psychology and teaches in the School Psychology program Dr. Warner’s areas of interest include Psychological Assessment; Gifted/Talented; Emotional Well-being and Cultural competence. Dr. Warner is licensed in Virginia as a Clinical Psychologist.
