Faculty activity within the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services at James Madison University centers on a number of important areas:

  • Research: facilitating health and human research that addresses community needs and issues
  • Faculty Practice: supporting professional practice that integrates the delivery of care with student education
  • Teaching/Learning: providing opportunities for faculty to develop and/or deliver new course content or teaching strategies that addresses emergent issues and fields of study in health and human services
  • Service: developing altruistic health and human service activities that utilizes faculty expertise and passion to respond to real and pressing needs in the community, the Commonwealth and our world
  • Interdisciplinarity: facilitating a collaborative environment in which interested peers and colleagues can work across multiple disciplines to develop and implement research, educational and service initiatives
  • Professional Opportunities: creating roles, activities and experiences that fulfill the mission of the Institute and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth beyond those usually available in academic settings

In short, the Institute seeks to carry faculty health and human service knowledge, skills and scholarship beyond the traditional classroom setting and out into the community.

By facilitating these linkages, faculty research, teaching/learning and service continues to fulfills James Madison University’s commitment to both the education of our students and the health and well-being of those in our communities in profound and life-changing ways.
