1. Foster mentoring opportunities with students
1.1. Share methods for including students in research
1.2. Provide consultation and training in the ethics of research
1.3. Support students’ travel to professional conferences
1.4. Provide models of multidisciplinary research with opportunities for participation by students
2. Organize a network of researchers who can:
2.1. Provide a critical internal review of manuscripts and grant proposals
2.2. Share ideas that lead to collaboration and further research
2.3. Advocate for university support of the research mission
2.4. Build alliances with community collaborators
3. Provide mentoring and support for junior faculty interested in making research a major focus of their career
3.1. Collaboratively write grant proposals and manuscripts with junior faculty
3.2. Share data sets to serve as pilot data for grant proposals
4. Develop an infrastructure that supports research activity by creating a core of staff trained to:
4.1. Develop and manage budgets
4.2. Manage personnel issues
4.3. Check manuscripts for formatting and references
4.4. Write budgets, budget justifications, and contracts
4.5. Recruit participants
4.6. Provide information and resource materials
