The law had many impacts on public schools and the CDC. The law specifies the CDC as the executive agency that will provide strategies to implement the law and provide a school program to address asthma. Also, public schools are now responsible for implementing the rules and regulations of the law in the proper manner. Public schools must find the policies that will best meet their students' needs.

This act amended the Public Health Service Act to give preference of grants to States with children in public schools that require self-administered medications to control their asthma. However, the law does not increase or decrease the liability of the individual under any other law.
