This law impacts a vast number of women in the United States of America. The law does this by improving prevention and primary care services for women. The law also increases awareness of related health topics that most affect women today.

The Women's Health Research and Prevention Amendments extended the Public Health Service Act. The law requires an education program for health professionals and the public on diethylstilbestrol (DES). The law also extended appropriations and research on topics such as osteoporosis, breast and ovarian cancers, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, and heart attacks in women. The law provides grants to states to provide support services dealing with breast and cervical cancer.
