EVENT: Vision of You Classes
LOCATION: Harrisonburg High School – Blue Streak Academy
DETAILS: Staff spends approximately 10 weeks with students in Blue Streak Academy at Harrisonburg High School. Topics covered include: goal setting; healthy relationships; sexually transmitted infections; alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; seeing the media clearly; and making healthy choices.DATE: Every Thursday, 12:15-1:12
EVENT: Spanish Vision of You Classes
LOCATION: Harrisonburg High School
DETAILS: Staff spends approximately 10 weeks with ESL students at Harrisonburg High School. Topics covered include: goal setting; healthy relationships; sexually transmitted infections; alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; seeing the media clearly; and making healthy choices.
TRAINING SESSIONS/WORKSHOPS
DATE: Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9 from 8:30am - 4:00pm
EVENT:ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
LOCATION: Detwiler Auditorium, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Center, Harrisonburg, VA
COST: $75
DETAILS: ASIST is a two day intensive, interactive and practice dominated course designed to help caregivers recognize risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. ASIST is a mental health version of FIRST AID. ASIST is for all caregivers (any person in a position of trust). It is suitable for school and campus counselors, nurses, case managers, physicians, teachers, youth service workers, police and correctional staff, clergy and anyone else in the field of human service.

ADVOCACY GROUPS
DATE: 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6:30pm-8:00pm
EVENT:ADHD Advocacy Group
LOCATION: JMU, Blue Ridge Hall, room 326
DETAILS: The group is for parents, grandparents or other family members, caregivers, teachers and anyone else interested in learning more about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Guest speakers, discussion, resources, and more. Childcare available at some meetings. For more information contact Fran Clark at (540)241-4754 or Frnclar@aol.com. The group is sponsored by CHADD, a national organization that provides information and support to children and adults with ADHD and the Alvin V. Baird Attention and Learning Disabilities Center at JMU.
FUNDRAISERS
DATE: Saturday, April 19
EVENT: Spring Splash Duck Race
LOCATION: Massanutten Water Park

EVENT: Support for Seasonal Apple Harvesters

DETAILS: The Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program is collecting new or gently used men’s clothing to be donated to the migrant farmers who provide the labor necessary to harvest our area’s apples.
