Participation
Any family of a child with special needs in Harrisonburg or Rockingham County is eligible to participate Families will be asked to complete a registration sheet identifying the type of care and unique needs of their child, and they must provide two hours of orientation. Since respite care providers are students not licensed nurses, there are some limitation and safety precautions that must be followed by the families if they wish to participate in the program.
It is recommended that the parent set up regular respite care times with the student respite providers. This allows the students to plan their schedules with other class requirements. This program is part of academic requirements so students will not be available to provide services during school breaks.
All respite care providers maintain current CPR certification.
