Our Goal

The goal of the Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program (SVMEP) is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma or complete a GED that prepares them for further learning, productive employment, and to be responsible community members.

SVMEP is one of 6 regional programs of the Virginia Migrant Education Program. It is a Federal Title I, part C program, under the eEvery Student Succeeds Act, that is state-administered by the Office of Program Administration and Accountability at the Virginia Department of Education.SVMEP provides supplemental instructional and educational support services to migrant temporary and seasonal agricultural workers and their children during the first 3 years of their residence and settlement into the community. The program provides assistance with school enrollment, parent involvement and community resource access. Tutoring, mentoring and interpretation services are offered. Our team includes 4 year-round, bilingual (Spanish/English) Migrant Educational Specialists, several work-study student employees and over 20 trained volunteer tutors.
