James Madison University

Do you have a child with special needs?

Precious Time is a pediatric respite care program that provides the families of children with special needs an opportunity to take a break from the demands of caregiving.  JMU nursing students provide respite care as part of a student learning experience. Precious Time serves families who live within a one hour radius of Harrisonburg, VA.

Mission

Through pediatric respite care, CMPT creates mutually beneficial relationships to support families of children with special needs and to educate nursing and health and human service students at James Madison University.

Goals

  • To provide families with children with special needs support and relief from daily responsibilities and demands, through individualized, trust-based respite care.
  • To develop confident, knowledgeable, and experienced health care professionals with a more comprehensive understanding of children with special needs and their families.

Precious Time is a program coordinated by the James Madison University Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services. The success of Precious Time depends on community support and student service. Whether you are a family caregiver, a community member, or a student, you can be part of Claude Moore Precious Time.
